Now This Might Get Awkward...

Dr. Frank Lloyd is trying to muscle his way to the Marion County Clerk's Office by bringing in some heavy hitters on his YouTube page.  He clearly has preferred to campaign this way rather than to do a lot of the traditional things a campaign for slating requires...visits to Democratic functions as well as phone calls, etc.

The "Coroner for Clerk" now has this ad out on his YouTube channel featuring Sheriff John Layton.

Of course, John Layton is currently on the ballot in this election cycle.  Should Myla Eldridge win at slating on Saturday, you would assume that she and Sheriff Layton would be campaigning on the same team.  Well, this could get awkward.

I don't want a bunch of slick videos. I want someone who has worked with me on tbe campaigns and who has repeatedly asked me for support during the campaign. Don't attempt to buy my vote with slick videos. I have a brain and and opinion of my own. I don't know this guy and he has been an officeholder for 8 years. Where has he been? I am a ward chair for
years and I have never met him.

Do you suppose the Sheriff was being held hostage by the Taliban and forced to read from a prepared statement? Seems to me that way, especially the lack of emotion and the continual looking up from the script to and looking to the corner to see if he is doing okay or if they are going to KILL him. Hmmm,.,, maybe I am reading too much into this...

A couple of things have had me puzzled since I first heard about Dr Llyod doing this: In so critical an office for this county, what does he, or any of his " supporters " think he has to offer ? he has no experinece beyond his father's ? As far as anyone can tell the man has NEVER worked an election as a precint pollworker let alone ward chair or other position which might impart some knowledge of the process. Why has he NEVER asked to visit the Clerks office and gain any knowledge? Which smacks of his assurances from his"supporters" that he has nothing to worry about if he wins. They'll be there to tell him exactly what to do. And who to hire. E tu Kip Tew? Dr Lyold has an ongoing practice. He is an Emergency Room physician which often keeps him busy late into the early morning. Admirable work. But does he seriously think he can do both jobs? Does he have any idea the commitment of time and energy the job of Clerk requires? Its not just elections and its not just an extra income. It's a full time + job. It's the courts. Its a staff. It's people who need constant attention. Its changes in legislature and attempted undermining of voters rights. It's proper record keeping. It's serving the public. Very visibly serving the public second only to the mayor in facetime or requests for information and interviews. He has shown no inclination to my knowledge to do any of this. Too bad there does not seem to be any interest on either side to ask him these questions before slating. He is a good man who is no way qualified for the office he seeks. He should realize this.

Everybody knows the Lloyd campaign is being run by the usual suspects that also run county party. Of course, Lloyd has no business being Clerk. His whole candidacy is a thinly veiled power play by those usual suspects. The question that will be answered at slating is whether that small handful of people are themselves "the party" or whether all of us active Democrats together are the party. The answer is up to the PCs. Good luck, Myla!
