Indiana Democratic Party Elects New Chair

John Zody
The Indiana Democratic Party elected John Zody as Chair today.  He is the first new chair for the Democrats in Indiana since 2004.

Dan Parker announced late in 2011 that he was going to resign.  After talking with some of the key candidates, he then decided to take the position back to get the party through the 2012 elections and rescinded his resignation.

Zody was unopposed as Chair.  Cordelia Lewis Burks is back as Vice Chair.  Vera Mileusnic is the new Secretary, and Sherrianne Stradley is the new Treasurer.

In a release sent out by the IDP, Zody said, "I'm excited to lead the Indiana Democratic Party, build on our past successes and continue to grow support for our candidates and campaigns," he said. "I look forward to working with this new team and our supporters across the state to make that happen. After all, our party is only as strong as those who are part of it."

More reaction to come, but the early word feeling is cautious optimism on the part of some Democrats. Many don't know a whole lot about Zody, but they are willing to learn.

Well, in the future, when the list of Indiana State Democratic Chairman is published, you can safely bet that "John Zody" will be last on the list.
