Vop Osili Speaks Out on Mayoral Rumors

Recently, there have been some rumors floating around that Vop Osili was interested in running for Mayor of Indianapolis and challenging Melina Kennedy in the primary. I decided to go directly to Vop and ask him.

So, on Friday, I sent him an e-mail directly asking him about the validity of the rumor.

He told me there was "absolutely no truth" to the rumor that he is running for Mayor. He also said he was a "huge fan" of Melina Kennedy.

Were there any rumors beyond some poster on Indiana Barrister's comments section?

Someone had done the same thing here.

Vop has a very bright future in the party because he is so intelligent. Vop recognizes that we have a winner in Melina Kennedy. I think some Republican was hoping to stir up trouble by making that post. Thanks Jon, for going to Vop and getting the true story out in the open.

I asked Vop the day before the election if he'd think of running for Mayor if the lost the SOS race. He laughed and said "no".

Given the number of votes that he got in Marion County I think that he would win.Melina is strong, but has NO personality at all.

Remember no candidate will admiit anything, it makes them look to egar. Plus Vop ran a good hard campaign and is probably tired at this point.Vop went to all 92 counties while White was just trying to figure out where he lives.

Maybe not this cycle, but I think that we have not heard the last of Vop Osili.

Vop needs to go away and never come back. He lost 88 of 92 counties. McKenna could have won this thing

This is pretty funny. First we have anonymous posters (or an anonymous poster more likely) trying to push Vop for Mayor which is fine in and of itself. Vop is a fantastic guy, though I would question anyone who thinks he is more qualified or has more expertise in city management than Melina Kennedy. I think Vop has a bright future and brings a great deal to the table, but that doesn't mean he is the best candidate for EVERY single office in this state. I personally think Melina is far and away the best candidate for the specific office of Mayor of Indianapolis. But, anonymous can think Vop would be better- no big deal.

But, now, anonymous goes from promoting Vop to posting all over the place about how Melina has no personality, is like "oatmeal", blah blah blah. Personal agenda much there, anonymous? Vop doesn't want to run for Mayor and he supports Melina. Deal with it. You are not helping Vop's cause by attacking Melina, you are hurting it. Of course, you don't speak for Vop so no one should hold your unhelpful advocacy against him. Some might though and you should probably think about that given your incessant Vop cheerleading.

Btw, your "number of votes" argument makes no sense. Vop got those votes as the Secretary of State candidate running against a profoundly flawed Republican opponent. Using your logic, John Layton should run for Mayor. But, that is stupid. Layton got the votes he did because he was ridiculously qualified to be SHERIFF, not Mayor. In case you didn't notice, Melina Kennedy is not Charlie White- Vop's 2010 votes do not mean what you are trying to make them mean.

It seems like someone on here and on some of the other blogs is trying to promote a Melina and Vop feud. It will not happen. They are both stars but Melins IS the candidate for mayor and someone who says that she has no personality must have some hidden agends. it is great to belong to a party where we have so many great potential candidates.
