Ballard's Letter Strikes Right Tone

Bravo to Mayor Ballard for sending a personal, handwritten letter to the family of Eric Wells, who was killed August 6 after being struck by the police cruiser driven by IMPD officer David Bisard.

I am sure that probably someone in city legal probably advised against the Mayor writing the letter. At this point, it’s also pretty clear that the city is going to be writing a few checks for the maximum amount of liability allowed under law if civil action is taken. This would seem to be a pretty cut and dry case...even Carl Brizzi speculated about it on Crime Beat.

Beyond these questions between the lawyers, it was just a good and heartfelt move by Mayor Ballard to write the letter to help perhaps ease the pain of the family at this tough time. Two victims remain hospitalized. Ballard attempted to see Kurt Weekly, but he was turned away due to the Mayor not being on the list of people approved to visit him.
