FOP Rejects Contract Offer

The Indianapolis Star reports that the Fraternal Order of Police has rejected the city's first contract offer tonight by an overwhelming 748-126 vote.

According to the Star, FOP members passed up a seven percent raise over four years over concerns about moving some downtown IMPD detectives to the districts. The full story is here.

The FOP endorsed Mayor Greg Ballard in his successful defeat of former Mayor Bart Peterson in 2007. Looks like the early endorsement for 2011 may be up for grabs.

After his stern rebuke of the UAW, in a two part blog post (here and here) I'm interested to see what Abdul will have to say on this one.

I don't know why, but for some reason, people see to draw a line and judge police and firefighter unions differently than other public and private sector unions.
