And I got to meet him!
Probably one of the coolest moments of my life, aside from being at President Obama's inauguration; it was definitely surreal. I was even lucky enough to get a picture with him without having to fork out the $2,400 donation to get a VIP reception and photo op with him. Also luckily, Congressman Hill's campaign created a discount tickets for College Democrats to attend the event, without which I wouldn't have been able to attend.
Roughly 200 people were in attendance to support the Congressman's reelection campaign, including two of the 4 newly-anointed Statewide Democratic Candidates, Vop Osili and Sam Locke; surprisingly Congressman Ellsworth and Pete Buttigieg* were not in attendance. Congressman Hill spoke before Vice President Biden, with nearly the same stump speech that he gave two days before at the IN Democratic Party State Convention. The Vice President's speech mostly hit on the deficit and how Congressman Hill is a deficit hawk, not a deficit peacock. It seemed to resonate very well with the more conservative Ninth district. Biden's focus on the deficit also made me think about the results of the G-20 summit this past weekend, at which World Leaders pushed have government deficits and spending reduced by 2013.
Apparently, Biden used the same stump speech later Monday night, because many of his comments at it drew the attention of the media. Overall, I thought the speeches and experience of getting to meet the Vice President was pretty amazing! Now, lets just get President Obama to come do an event for future-Senator Ellsworth in Indianapolis, you can bet I'd be there!
*Correction: Pete Buttigieg was in attendance, I apologize for the misstatement.
