Evans To File For Mayor

Jose Evans is running for Mayor.

Sent yesterday, the e-mail release from his campaign was very short, simple, and to the point, "Councillor Jose Evans will file his paperwork to file for an exploratory committee for Mayor of Indianapolis (today) at 2:30 p.m."

Evans was elected to the City-County Council in November of 2007, and took office in 2008. He has been running for mayor by not running for mayor for quite a while, and his announcement is no surprise to anyone. I wonder what impact his entry into the race will have. While he's been waiting to join the Mayoral Marathon officially until now, he hasn't been exactly quiet. Evans has sent out news releases from his campaign on various issues.

So, if you're playing along at home, the Democrats vying for the office so far include: Former Deputy Mayor Melina Kennedy, Businessman Brian Williams, Former City-County Councillor Ron Gibson, and Evans. While I have no specific information on anything, there could always be more!!

Evans is a bright guy, but I don't see his entry into the race as having a big impact on things or the landscape of the race, at least not yet. Kennedy and Williams have raised lots of money and have been actively working the circuit. They have to be considered the two candidates that have separated themselves from the field thus far. Gibson and Evans are trailing the pack a bit due to the somewhat late start.

I doubt that we will see Jose on the primary ballo for mayor, although we might, Ron, and, of course, Medlina and Brian.
